lumpen: una discusión


La atribución de responsabilidades materiales en el atentado a CFK al sujeto "lúmpen" puede abrir un interesante debate sobre su caracterización y función en la sociedad capitalista post-globalización. Aquí una posición que discute la asignación al lúmpen el valor conceptual que ledieran Ernest Mandel y André Gunder Frank, en este blog retomado, de  emergente marginal, facilmemnte mainipulable por sectores dominantes.

"El papel de la lucha de clases en el materialismo histórico y las obras de Marx es central para explicar los fenómenos políticos, sociales e históricos. Si bien las dos clases principales, el proletariado y la burguesía, impulsan el progreso de la sociedad capitalista, Marx también incluye referencias a otras clases, como el lumpen, que son históricamente relevantes en la lucha de clases. 

Este artículo plantea que la comprensión de Marx del lumpen cambia continuamente a lo largo de sus obras y es parte integral, no solo periférica, de la lucha de clases. Al examinar la cronología de la definición de Marx del lumpen, sostengo que las obras posteriores de Marx rompen con sus acusaciones anteriores del lumpen como contrarrevolucionario cuando concluye en El Capital que el lumpen es una clase explotada debido a su relación con el trabajo productivo en el capitalismo. Este enfoque para entender el lumpen en las obras de Marx me lleva a argumentar que el lumpen puede ser una posible fuerza revolucionaria en la lucha de clases revolucionaria. 

Conectando las obras de Marx con la época contemporánea, muestro que las formas tradicionales de producción y vida lumpen se están volviendo más ubicuas, debido a las tendencias políticas y económicas recientes, y por lo tanto, es más importante incorporarlas a los movimientos políticos. Sostendré que el discurso político actual ha trabajado para descontar las acciones políticas del lumpen en países como Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido, mientras que al mismo tiempo la clase lumpen ha crecido considerablemente en dichos países. Concluyo que la izquierda política debe incorporar una comprensión del lumpen en sus luchas si quiere crear seriamente una política radical de clase en el futuro cercano".

Biografía

Michael Villanova es un estudiante de posgrado en The Graduate Center, CUNY, que estudia ciencias políticas. Su investigación actual se centra en la intersección entre la producción de cultura y las políticas de desarrollo territorial en la ciudad neoliberal de Nueva York. Su trabajo anterior se centró en las filosofías sociales de Soren Kierkegaard y Albert Camus.
